Retaining the original Art Deco façade paired with chic mid-century interiors, the 12-storey design-led building by Melbourne architecture practice Peddle Thorp brings a sense of glamour and theatre to Bourke St. The ground floor gives a nod to the site’s history as the iconic MGM cinema whilst paying tribute to espresso bars prevalent in the area in the 1950s with mid-century inspired furniture, polished natural stone and terrazzo, and fluted chrome. Contemporary style meets mid-century elegance within 235 guestrooms and 14 suites with custom joinery, eye-catching lighting, and chic marble bathrooms. Whilst Dolly, the hotel’s signature restaurant, provides a moody 1930’s backdrop evoking the glamour and mystique of the backstage with soft mulberry-hued banquette seating, luxuriant deep red carpet and a sparkling central server bar wrapped in fluted chrome.
